PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb filter which can highly suppress generation of crack or the like by reducing thermal stress of respective parts of a filter and is suitable for one consisting essentially of silicon carbide or metallic silicon and silicon carbide and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The honeycomb filter 10 is constituted by joining a plurality of honeycomb segments 4, 5 which have a plurality of through-holes 21 partitioned by porous partition walls 20 and in which the through-holes 21 are alternatively sealed at an exhaust gas entrance end face 16 and an exhaust gas exit end faces 14. Adjoining honeycomb segments 4, 5 are brought into contact with each other at a part of respective flanks 6, 7 facing each other and further are joined to each other via a joining material 24 having strength smaller than that of a base body of the honeycomb segment at least at a part of flanks 6, 7 except the contacting parts 8, 9. |
