PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a screw press type filtering apparatus which can fix the water content of a filtered treated matter even at startup. SOLUTION: The screw press type filtering apparatus has a screw 4 rotatably inserted inside an approximately cylindrical filtering body, filters matters to be treated supplied between the screw 4 and the filtering body 10 from one end side of the screw 4, while transporting them to the other end side by the rotation of the screw 4, and discharges the matters to be treated from a discharge port provided at the other end side. The filtering apparatus is further provided with a back pressure valve 21 which is provided in the discharge port at the side of the other end of the filtration body 10, and restricts the discharge of the filtered treated matter, and a back pressure valve control part 41 which controls the back pressure valve 21 to keep a discharge port 9 closed with the back pressure valve 21 when starting filtering process in the screw press type filtering apparatus and to open the discharge port 9 after a specific time elapsed.
