SLOTTED TAP AND LENTULO DRILL FOR DENTAL POST SYSTEM

A method and system for inserting a dental post (51) into a tooth root canal is provided. The method comprises the steps of cutting out a post hole (17) in the tooth (11) and inserting a threaded tap (19) into the post hole (17) for creating at least one groove (45) along the hole (17). Significantly, the tap (19) includes at lea st one slot (31) defined by a pair of flexible legs (27, 29) and running at least a portion of the length thereof for reducing stress along the post hole (17) during threaded insertion. Also provided is a lentulo drill (37) comprising a spiraled wire (41) with a reverse spiral configuration at the apical end (43) thereof for confining cement placement in the post hole (17) prior to insertion of the dental post (51).
