PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a transformed plant efficiently absorbing and detoxicating a heavy metal such as cadmium, zinc or copper and well growing even in the environment contaminated with the heavy metal. SOLUTION: This transformed plant or a tissue thereof comprises a polynucleotide encoding a cysteine synthase derived from a plant and transduced thereinto and has a high cysteine synthase activity and further heavy metal resistance and heavy metal scavenging ability.
