PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a screw tightening device that can accommodate tightening of a wide variety of screws. SOLUTION: The screw tightening device, which comprises a screw tightening tool designed to rotatively drive a driver bit capable of engagement with the head of a screw, and a reciprocating means for reciprocating the screw tightening tool, has an encoder capable of detecting a movement position of the screw tightening tool, a thrust applying means for applying thrust to the screw tightening tool, and a controlling means for controlling the thrust applying means and thus controlling the screw tightening thrust by setting a thrust switching point according to a screw tightening reference position, the type of the tightened screw and dimensional parameters corresponding to the tightened screw, detecting that the thrust switching point is reached according to a signal from the encoder, and acquiring a screw tightening thrust parameter corresponding to the thrust switching point.
