Polyesters based on 3-(carboxyphenyl)-1,1,3-trimethylindane carboxylic acids (I) contg. units - where A = linear hydrocarbon group with 2-10 methylene groups, a satd. cyclic hydrocarbon with 4-6 ring methylene groups, or a group -(CH2)a -arylene-(CH2)a- where a = 1-5, and arylene = divalent aromatic hydrocarbon group, and x = 30-300. The polyesters are made by condensing (I) with a suitable diol (e.g. ethylene glycol) by methods such as those used for the prodn. of polyethylene terephthalate. The products have film- and fibre-forming properties, and give fibres with warmer feel and higher elasticity than polyethylene terephthalate or polyolefin fibres. |
