Corrosion protected buried pipe system comprises metal pipes provided with an insulating layer of bitumen, plastics, etc. an outer sheath, and a cathodic protection device. The sheath consists of a porous plastics material, and provides physical protection as well as permitting cathodic protection to be effective. Pref. the plastic sheath consists of bonded granular thermoplastic, e.g. polyethylene.
