The polychromatic EL device includes a transparent substrate 1; a colour conversion filter including fluorescent layers 2, 3 and 4 disposed in a planar arrangement on the substrate 1 and spaced apart from each other; and an organic EL film 7 including an organic light-emitting layer above the colour conversion filter so that the light emitted from the light-emitting layer may be absorbed by the fluorescent layers 2, 3 and 4 and converted to the respective colours. A protection film 5 and a hard coat film 6 are interposed between the colour conversion filter and the organic EL film. The hard coat film is impermeable enough to work as a barrier for blocking gases produced during formation of the organic EL film and hard enough to endure the formation of the organic EL film. The device exhibits a wide angle of visibility and includes fluorescent materials that do not deteriorate during the manufacturing process. |
