Fire resistant polyurethanes are formed from reaction product of antimony trihalide with a polyetherpolyol or polyester polyol contg. a 4 degrees N atom in its chain, complex formed having formula: (where a si 1, 2 or 3; X is Cl, Br, I or F; R1, R2, R3 being H, alkyl and at least one being poly(ether or ester)-polyol-alkyl) (terminating in hydroxyalkyl) R4 is H, halogen or 1 - 4 C alkyl). Activating agent, pref. epichlorhydrin, is added during, or at end of, reaction. Complex is added to a polyisocyanate to form a polyurethane, esp. a foam, having good fire resistance.
|
