The invention relates to a two-step hydro formylation method, wherein the first step a water soluble rhodium complex catalysator is used in the presence of water and the waste gas is introduced in a second hydro formylation step, wherein the olefinically unsaturated compounds contained in the waste gas are hydro formulated in a homogenous reaction system in the presence of xanthene skeleton based diphosphines.
