PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily position end parts of a plurality of fibers with high precision in a two-dimensional optical fiber array. SOLUTION: The two-dimensional fiber array is composed by laminating a holding substrate 10a which holds optical fibers 12a1 , 12a2 , 12a3 , etc. with holding grooves V1 , V2 , V3 , etc. and a holding substrate 10b which holds optical fibers 12b1 , 12b2 , 12b3 , etc. in the same way as it. A positioning plate 14 in which a large number of positioning holes P11 , P12 ,..., P21 , P22 , etc. for respectively inserting end parts of a large number of optical fibers arranged in a matrix in the end face of the optical fiber array are formed in the matrix and a positioning plate 16 in which a large number of positioning holes Q11 , Q12 ,..., Q21 , Q22 , etc. are formed in the same way as it are prepared by a thin film process or the like. The plates 14 and 16 are attached to an array main body in the state that a relative position between the plates 14 and 16 is adjusted so as to hold the end parts with the corresponding holes of P11 and Q11 or the like every optical fiber of 12a1 or the like.
