PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photo-alignment film having excellent long-term stability against light and heat. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the photo-alignment film includes processes of applying the material for the photo-alignment film containing a dichroic dye having two or more polymerizable groups in one molecule on a substrate, irradiating the material with polarized light to impart the photo- alignment function and heating the substrate or irradiating the substrate with light to polymerize the polymerizable groups.
