PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine capable of appropriately controlling the exhaust recirculation quantity according to the deterioration of the capacity of an exhaust recirculation system. SOLUTION: The control device of the internal combustion engine has the exhaust recirculation system 21 comprising an exhaust recirculation passage 12 communicating with an exhaust passage 10 and an intake passage 2 of the internal combustion engine 1, and an exhaust recirculation valve 13 for controlling the quantity of the exhaust recirculation made to flow back to the intake passage 2 via the exhaust recirculation passage 12 according to the operating capacity LACT. The control device also has a fuel feed stopping means 5 for stopping feeding a fuel to the internal combustion engine 1 in the deceleration operation of the internal combustion engine 1, a pressure detecting means 6 for detecting the pressure PBA inside the intake passage, and an operating capacity restricting means 5 for restricting the upper bound of the operating capacity of the exhaust recirculation valve 13 according to the variation of the pressure inside the intake passage detected when the exhaust recirculation valve 13 is opened/closed while feeding of the fuel is stopped. |
