PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform rewriting processing of information recorded on a rewritable information recording medium in a short time. SOLUTION: In writing from the information recording medium in the case of data rewriting, a drive controller 6 secures an area equivalent to a minimum writing unit quantity in a buffer memory, transfers and writes data to be rewritten from a host device 10 to a position corresponding to a rewriting part within the area of the secured minimum writing unit quantity, reads data which is not to be rewritten from the area of a rewriting object on the medium 11 to write it at a position corresponding to a part which is not to be rewritten, and overwrites data consisting of the data which is not to be rewritten within the secured area in the memory 7 and the data to be rewritten in the area of the rewriting object of the medium 11.
