PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating type magnetic recording medium having low electric resistance, high output and a satisfactory C/N ratio. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium formed by providing a base layer consisting essentially of non-magnetic powder and a bonding agent on a non-magnetic flexible substrate and a magnetic layer containing ferromagnetic powder and a bonding agent on the base layer is characterized by that the magnetic layer has 0.01-0.3μm average thickness, the non-magnetic powder of the base layer has an acicular or a plate like shape, conductive fine particles having <=30 nm particle size are adhered to the particle surface of the non- magnetic powder and polyurethane having a cyclic structure and a hydrophilic polar group is contained at least as the bonding agent of the base layer.
