PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently induce and heat the proximity of exhaust upstream end surface of exhaust emission purifying catalyst. SOLUTION: In this catalyst heat-up device of an internal combustion engine, the exhaust emission purifying catalyst 7 is arranged in an engine exhaust passage 3, an electric conductor 13 is disposed along the exhaust upstream end surface 8 of the catalyst 7, alternating current is applied to the electric conductor 13 to induce and heat a part 9 near the exhaust upstream end surface 8 of the catalyst 7. At least a part around the electric conductor 13 except for a space between it and the catalyst 7 is provided with a high magnetic permeability element 10 having a magnetic permeability higher than that of an atmosphere around the electric conductor 13. |
