PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing graphite nanofiber powder and an equipment therefor with a low energy and environmentally friendly technique. SOLUTION: This method comprises using an equipment having a reduced- pressure vessel, a line for introducing a raw material gas into the vessel, a filter for removing impurities when introducing the raw material gas, a water- cooling pipe set on the outer wall of the vessel, a reflector set near the inner wall of the vessel, a line for introducing hydrogen gas into the vessel and a plurality of iron-based metal plates set in the vessel, and performing the following process: as the raw material gas, an exhaust gas discharged from an iron mill or a refuse incineration plant and containing at least carbon monoxide is introduced into the vacuumed vessel through the filter, also hydrogen gas is introduced into the vessel and the objective graphite nanofiber is formed on the surface of the metal plates by a thermal CVD method.
