PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To charge a caller side for an e-mail received by a receiver in an e-mail transmission and reception system. SOLUTION: In an e-mail transmission and reception system which is structured that an e-mail is uploaded from a transmission device to one server connected with the Internet, transferred to the other server connected therewith and thence downloaded to a reception device, and which has an accounting method to charge a caller for an e-mail transmitted from his transmission device to one server and charge a receiver for the e-mail received by his reception device from the other server, the e-mail accounting system according to this invention is characterized in that when a transmission device transmits a prescribed kind of e-mail, the charge for its download from the other server and reception by a reception device is calculated and charged to the caller, while the reception charge to a receiver is adjusted.
