摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming an optical element which is capable of obtaining a required high accuracy shape for an optically functional face and is capable of avoiding deformation. SOLUTION: The method for forming the optical element includes cooling, reheating, and pressing processing steps. This method comprises a step wherein a glass material 9 and a forming mold are heated to the glass transition temperature or more while the glass material 9 is being held with the forming mold comprising a pair of an upper die 1 and a lower die 2, a step wherein the heated glass material 9 is press-formed with the forming mold, a step wherein pressure applied to the glass material 9 through the lower die 2 is released when the temperature of the forming mold is raised to the vicinity of the glass transition temperature, a step wherein the released lower die 2 is transferred in such a way to repress the glass material 9, and then subjected to reheating and maintained at the glass transition temperature or more of the glass material 9 and applied pressure is gradually decreased while the temperature of the glass material 9 is being maintained, and a step wherein the forming mold and the formed glass material 9 are cooled to a predetermined temperature.
