摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that reads a front side/rear side of originals consecutively carried by a slit exposure system and uses a proper threshold so as to apply binary processing to the front side/rear side of the originals thereby preventing the increase in number of components and enhancing the operating rate of the circuit. SOLUTION: The image reader is provided with an original carrying section (26) that leads an original from an entrance port to an original discharge port, a couple of original read means (66) that separately reads the image on the front side/rear side of originals on the way of the original carrying section, a timing setting circuit (206) that sets an image read timing of each original read means, a data changeover circuit (210) that alternately switches a prescribed number of read data read by each original read means for each of a prescribed number of main scanning lines on the basis of an output of the timing setting circuit and outputs them in series, a memory (212) that separately stores binary threshold values for the front image and the rear image, a threshold value switching circuit (214) that selects any threshold value on the basis of the output of the timing setting circuit, and a binary circuit (200) that uses the threshold value selected by the threshold value changeover circuit to apply binary processing to the output of the data switching circuit.
