PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide a high polymer EL element having a light- emitting face which is easy to look at and which has a high contrast wherein a light absorbing layer of a uniform film is installed between the high polymer light-emitting layer and a negative electrode, and wherein external light is prevented from reflecting on the negative electrode surface. SOLUTION: In the high polymer EL element comprised that at least a transparent or semi-transparent positive electrode layer, a high polymer EL layer containing the high polymer light-emitting layer, and the negative electrode layer are sequentially laminated on a light-permeating substrate, at least one layer of the light absorbing layer containing at least a dye is included between the high polymer light-emitting layer and the negative electrode layer.
