PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing impurities, with which impurities such as sulfur, nitrogen, etc., in fuel oil can be efficiently removed. SOLUTION: This method for removing impurities in fuel oil comprises bringing a fuel oil treating agent into contact with a fuel oil. The fuel oil treating agent is brought into contact with a fuel oil at -30 deg.C to 50 deg.C. The fuel oil treating agent comprises a multiple oxide composed of a metal component, an inorganic oxide and/or activated carbon. The metal component is one or more kinds selected from the group consisting of Ag, Cu, Zn, Sn, Pb, Cd, Bi, Hg, Pt, Pd, Ni, Fe, Co, Ru, Rh, Au and Mn and the inorganic compound is oxides of one or more kinds of elements selected from the group consisting of Ti, Zr, Ce, Si, Al, Mg, Nb, Mo, W, Ca, Ba and P.
