PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communications system that uses a surface light-emitting semiconductor laser device chip capable of reducing an operating voltage and an oscillation threshold current as a light-emitting source, enables optical space transmission that is an optical wireless communications environment capable of flexibly responding to a layout change, and enables communications environment that is safe to a human body, in particular, eyes in a communications space. SOLUTION: The optical communications system has a light-sending/receiving means that has the surface light-emitting type semiconductor laser device chip as the light-emitting source, and a light-receiving means having a light-receiving device having sensitivity in at least one wavelength band; a drive controlling means for driving the light-emitting device or the light-receiving device; a modulating/demodulating means for transforming light into a desired signal; a control means for controlling a wireless communications path that is physically and logically established; an interface means for passing data between itself and an application of a connection unit through a transmission path in the connection unit. |
