PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten an address period. SOLUTION: Green discharge cells C include a row electrode pair Z2, Z3 or a row electrode pair Z4, Z5 or a row electrode pair Z6, Z7 and, on the other hand, red discharge cells C include a row electrode pair Z1, Z2 or a row electrode pair Z3, Z4 or a row electrode pair Z5, Z6. That is, the green discharge cells C and the red discharge cells C include different row electrode pairs and, as a result, green discharge cells C and red discharge cells C can be respectively selected independently in the address period. Variation of discharge delay times of write discharge in red discharge cells C is smaller than that in green discharge cells C. Thus, red discharge cells C are selected by using a scanning pulse narrower than a scanning pulse for selecting green discharge cells C in the address period.
