The invention relates to the use of one or more shogaol(s) as an aphrodisiac. Advantageously, the shogaol(s) fit general formula (I) wherein n is equal to 1, 2, 4, 6 or 8, and preferably 1. The invention also relates to a method for stimulating or arousing an individual's libido comprising the administering of an effective quantity of one or more shogaol(s) to an individual.
