PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary damper varying rotation torque according to the rotation of a rotating body. SOLUTION: This rotary damper is constituted by comprising a cylindrical housing 1, the rotating body 2 supported rotatably within the housing 1 and a braking spring 3 interposed between the housing 1 and the rotating body 2, installs cysmardly a spindle 4 of the rotating body 2 inside of the housing 1 and forms a bearing hole 8 for inserting the spindle 4 to be fixed to the rotating body 2. When the rotating body 2 is rotated and linearly screwed into the housing 1 by obtaining a state of a screw surface 5 or 9 and a projection 9 or 5 are screened by cutting the screw surface 5 or 9 on either one of the spindle 4 and the bearing hole 8 and providing the projection 9 or 5 screwed into the screw surface 5 or 9 on the other, a braking spring 3 is compressed and an elastic pressure contact force for the rotating body 2 is enhanced according to the screwing. Therefore, rotation torque as the rotary damper is gradually increased as an opened object is moved in the open direction.
