Production of a quasi-endless coated coilable metal sheet involves applying a liquid coating starting material and drying and/or cross-linking the starting material to a solid thin layer by irradiating the coated surface of the metal sheet with electromagnetic radiation of high power density and/or in the IR region of wavelength 0.8-1.5 micro m. Preferred Features: A blank galvanized or nickel-plated steel sheet is used as the metal sheet. The coating is a corrosion protection agent and/or a primer for subsequent lacquering.
