The invention relates to a lighting and signaling device (1) for motor vehicles or airplanes. The device comprises a light source (6) and means for focusing the radiation of said source onto the entry end of a transparent rod (2). Said rod (2) extends along a longitudinal axis (A) and has a plurality of reflecting facets (3) at an angle to said longitudinal axis from which light having a determined intensity is emitted. The facets cooperate optically with optical lenses (15) that are arranged on the exit end of an optical rod (2) in the path of the elementary light bundles reflected by the facets (3). Light-controlling elements (5) facilitate a deflection of the light or a passage of the light by modifying the reflection on the facet (3). The invention is further characterized in that a coupling element can be inserted into the beam path of the coupled out beam for coupling the beam back into the path in order to allow a passage of light in the beam path.
