The invention relates to an internal combustion engine comprising a cylinder crankcase and a case structure, which preferably has two cylinders or cylinder support rows (2, 3), which are arranged in a V-shaped manner and on whose face an endless drive extends. Said endless drive has a timing chain (14) and is provided for connecting a crankshaft to camshafts (9 to 12) arranged in the cylinder heads (7, 8), whereby the timing chain (14) is covered by a timing drive cover (18). The invention provides that the timing drive cover (18) or the case structure located opposite the timing drive cover has a ribbing (32, 34, 36) over which a specific depositing and/or return of the oil carried along by the timing chain (14) in the direction of the cylinder heads (7, 8) ensues. This results, among other things, in preventing the ventilation of the crankcase, which ensues via the timing chain case, from becoming inhibited.
