PURPOSE: A multi-port interface device and method using a UTOPIA(Universal Test and Operation Physical Interface for ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode)) level 2 is provided to satisfy a traffic for which a system wishes by applying a weight value to a multi-port according to the frequency or importance of ATM cells transmitted and received through each port, selecting a specific port on the basis of the weight value, and interfacing the ATM cells. CONSTITUTION: A slave device(100) accommodates a plurality of ports, applies a weight value to each port, selects a specific port according to the weight value when receiving a state request signal from a master device(200), and transmits a response about the selected port to the master device(200). The master device(200) transmits the state request signal to the slave device(100), and transmits and receives cells through the selected port when receiving the response.
