PURPOSE: A brain cell protective composition containing an antioxidant as a main component, an inhibitory neurotransmitter and brain cell membrane lipids, and an auxiliary component to protect dying brain cells caused by continuous irritation from the exterior or interior of a brain is provided which contributes to enhancement in the ability of animals to learn tasks and is effective in maintenance of memory. CONSTITUTION: The composition comprises: 1 to 26% by weight of an antioxidant selected from the group consisting of flavonoid, ascorbic acid, tocopherol and a mixture thereof; 6 to 40% by weight of brain cell membrane lipids selected from the group consisting of phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine, Docosahexaenoic acid and a mixture thereof; and 1 to 20% by weight of γ-aminobutyric acid as an inhibitory neurotransmitter and 0.3 to 3% by weight of an auxiliary component selected from the group consisting of a ginkgo leaves extract, vitamin B groups and a mixture thereof.
