A process for producing molding components with partially or totally closed hollow areas, comprises injecting dosed amounts of water into the melt as it is fed into a mould. The water vaporizes in an explosive manner as it contacts the melt, and presses the melt against one or more outer walls and holds it in place. The water injection nozzle is integrated into the melt inlet nozzle. The nozzle is located in the outside section of the tool. The pressure and/or temperature of the water , and/or the amount injected by both nozzles is variable.
