The invention relates to a device for producing a white light used, particularly, for illuminating the interior of the eye. A semi-conductor laser (10') emits rays in the blue/violet/ultraviolet spectral regions, which is injected into an optical waveguide (18'). The optical waveguide (18') is doped with fluorescent colours (26). White light is produced at the end (22') of the light waveguide by superposition of the fluorescent rays.
