Method for identification of code or signaling wheel errors, especially for the signaling wheel of a combustion engine crankshaft, whereby a sensor (2) is fixed relative to a section of the code wheel and calculates an angular velocity from a pulse sequence. Fault identification occurs when the engine is in push mode and the kinetic energy of the crankshaft is determined for each section of the signaling wheel. The machining tolerances and faults caused during assembly of the signaling wheel are determined for each segment and rotational-velocity dependent correction values determined. The correction values are determined using measured values of the kinetic energy of the crankshaft and a series of equations linking inlet and outlet
