Cold-conducting fluids are passed by a pump (16) with variable capacity, via valves through containers (9,11). The heat energy to be used, e.g. exhaust gases of an IC engine, or steam of a hydrogen engine, are passed via pipes (2,3) through containers (5,7) filled with reversible de-hydrateable material, e.g. zeolite. Each container is connected to one of the first containers via an intake bridge, with the connection being alternately opened and closed. The container are hermetically sealed relative to the environment, and are at a lower pressure relative to the ambient pressure. The appliance is used as an air conditioner.
