A micromirror device (140) has a micromirror (130) capable of tilting about a plurality of axes so that it can function as a colour switch. The device (140) can be employed in a projector. The micromirror device (140) includes a substrate (100), a plurality of electrodes (105a, 105b, 105c) on the substrate (100) and a spider (120) supported by a predetermined number of first posts (110) and arranged to be capable of tilting about a plurality of axes and on which a micromirror (130) is mounted.
