In a base station transmission power control method, the first expected value of the first block error rate representing predetermined reception quality is set in a portable terminal apparatus. The second block error rate in the portable terminal apparatus is measured with the second count smaller than the first count which is the an execution count of error detection processing required to measure the first block error rate. The portable terminal apparatus controls the transmission power of a base station on the basis of the measured second block error rate. The transmission power increase/decrease width may be smaller than that used with the first block error rate. The arrangement allows transmission power changes to be made more rapidly. |
