PURPOSE: A tension mask frame assembly for a CRT is provided to maintain a relatively precise spacing of the mask strands during manufacturing and tube operation. CONSTITUTION: A tension mask frame assembly(24) for a CRT comprises a mask frame(48), at least one support bracket(56) attached to each opposing sides of the frame, a plurality of spaced apart parallel strands(44) having a first coefficient of thermal expansion, wherein each end of the strands is attached to opposed strand termination inserts(58) having a second coefficient of thermal expansion and located within the brackets, and a plurality of cross-wires(46) oriented substantially perpendicular to the strands, wherein the cross-wires are attached to the strands and having a coefficient of thermal expansion similar to the second coefficient of thermal expansion.
