1349604 Biological purification RESEARCH CORP 31 Dec 1971 [31 Dec 1970] 61030/71 Heading C1C Apparatus for biologically purifying waste liquid comprises a vessel A including inlet 20 for supplying the liquid, filter F, passageway 24, 26 for receiving liquid flowing substantially horizontally through filter F and for recycling it to filter F, pump 48 for supplying oxygencontaining gas (e.g. heated gas) to the passageway and outlet 22 for continuously discharging a portion of the circulating liquor from the vessel. In the passageway portion 26 there may be baffles 46 to provide a sinuous path for the liquid. The apparatus may comprise more than one vessel A connected in series or parallel. Liquid may be recycled from one vessel to an upstream vessel. The filter medium may be larger or coarser in the first vessel than in subsequent vessels. The liquid may be treated in an activated sludge process or trickling filter process prior to treatment in vessel A. The liquid from vessel A may be subsequently treated in an activated carbon unit or a vertical flow biological filter. The filter F may comprise rock, gravel and/or sand or spaced plates or arcuate sections of thermoplastics or corrugated fibreglass. Particles may settle out in vessel A. |
