PURPOSE: An ATM UNI(User Network Interface) STM-1 remote MGS(Media Gateway System) is provided to connect an MGS, on which generic ATM interface functions, such as frame relay interfacing, ATM adaptive layer-1 trunking, ATM adaptive layer-2 trunking, circuit emulation interfacing, etc., are concentrated, to an ATM host exchange through an STM link so that remote communication service can be achieved between an ATM exchange and a PSTN exchange. CONSTITUTION: An MGM(Media gateway Module) consists of an MMCH(MGM Control Hardware block)-A, an MMCH-B, a service block, and an SCS(Stand alone Call control Server). The MMCHs are connected each other through an SCC(Serial Communication Channel) and a DCS(Double Control Signal). The service block provides various application interfaces that transmit signals to LVDS(Low Voltage Difference Signal) SBs(Serial Buses). The SCS executes a call control function alone for the MGM. The service block is composed of an AATH(ATM Adaptive layer-2 Trunking Hardware block), an NTIH(N-ISDN Interworking Hardware block), a CEIH(Circuit Emulation Interface Hardware block), an FRIH(Frame Relay Interface Hardware block), and an MCIH(Medium speed Circuit emulation Interface Hardware block).
