PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply an adhesive, a resin or the like to form a thin film having uniform thickness of micrometer order on a sheet-like base material having a smooth surface without causing the change of the mechanical precision in a continuous coating. SOLUTION: A stage 5 for setting the base material to be coated is provided vertically movable to a coating head 4 fixed at a prescribed position, movable in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the coating head 4 and the initial setting of a gap between the coating head 4 and the base material to be coated can be performed at a coating staring position. Because the coating head 4 is fixed during the coating and the heed position is univocally determined by vertically moving the stage 5, the precise coating film thickness can be reproduced and the change of the mechanical precision in the continuous coating is prevented. And the parallelism of the coating head is attained remarkably simply and precisely by carrying out the gap setting with a micrometer provided on both ends of the longitudinal direction of the coating head.
