PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission controller for a vehicle, which can prevent a vehicle from traveling in the direction where it encounters a hindrance. SOLUTION: A front camera 16 is arranged on the front end of the vehicle for monitoring a prescribed front area of the vehicle, and a rear camera 17 is arranged on the rear end of the vehicle for monitoring a prescribed rear area of the vehicle. When SBW-ECU(Electric Control Unit) 12 determines, basing the determination on the information from the front camera 16, that the vehicle will encounter the hindrance when it travels forward, SBW-ECU 12 prevents the contact status of the transmission 21 from shifting to a traveling status D even if the operating part 11a of a shift operating body 11 is inclined to the position 'D'. Also, when SBW-ECU 12 determines, basing the determination on the information from the rear camera 17, that the vehicle will encounter the hindrance when it travels forward, SBW-ECU 12 prevents the contact status of the transmission 21 from shifting to a retreating status R even if the operating 11a is inclined to the position 'R'. |
