A retainer is anchored by screws, and has top and bottom support surfaces fitting against the adjacent sides of panels, for connecting wooden tread panels at the cantilevered edge of a flight of stairs. The end of each tread panel (1, 2) at this edge holds a metal support piece (3, 4) in a downward-open groove, for rigid connection with spacers (7). This piece is firmly joined to the panel with adhesive, or by a screw or other connecting member (5, 6). On the underside of the panel the support piece can be covered by a component spanning the groove. |
