PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable driving data including setting of a driving block to be transferred to a recoding head at high speeds when the recording head is to be driven separately for each block. SOLUTION: In an ink jet recorder which records by discharging ink to a medium to be recoded from the recoding head with the use of the recording head having a plurality of discharge openings, a head data transfer block 604 generates driving data for blocks and designating data for designating blocks so as to drive the recording head separately for each block by dividing the plurality of discharge openings to blocks each comprising a predetermined number of discharge openings, and transfers the data to the recording head. The driving data is stored into an SRAM 601 so that lower five bits of a storage address agrees with the block-designating data in units of the blocks. The head data transfer block 604 provides the driving data read out from the SRAM 601 and transfers the lower five bits of a read address as block data-selecting data.
