The measurement method comprises two calibration steps carried out whilst the vehicle is unloaded, two measuring steps carried out once the vehicle has been loaded, and the calculation of the vehicle mass when loaded as a function of the ratio between the sum of the two load values obtained for the two calibration steps and the sum of the two acceleration values obtained for the two measuring steps. During the first calibration step, vehicle speed is increased over a speed or rev interval, a first calibrated acceleration value is obtained corresponding to the vehicle acceleration over this interval, and a first calibrated load value is calculated, corresponding to the vehicle propulsion force during the interval, as a function of the product of the first calibrated acceleration value and the known mass of the vehicle when unloaded. During the second calibration step, vehicle speed is reduced over a speed or rev interval, a second calibrated acceleration value is obtained corresponding to the vehicle acceleration over this interval, and a second calibrated load value is calculated, corresponding to the vehicle braking force during this interval, as a function of the product of the second calibrated acceleration value and the known mass of the vehicle when unloaded. For the first measuring step, vehicle speed is increased over a speed or rev interval, and a first acceleration value is obtained corresponding to the vehicle acceleration over this interval, and for the second measuring step, vehicle speed is reduced over a speed or rev interval, and a second acceleration value and second measured force value are obtained corresponding to the vehicle retardation and braking force over this interval. |
