PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which enables detection of load currents of a motor with a high accuracy by building a current detection means with a simple circuit requiring no smoothing and achieve a protection during the locking period of a rotary brush while maintaining ease of handling. SOLUTION: The power supplied to the motor 8 is lowered when the output of the current detection means 11 for detecting load currents of the motor 8 exceeds a first specified value V1 and the supply of the power to the motor 8 is stopped when the output exceeds a second specified value V2; the second specified value V2 is set higher than the first specified value V1. This enables detection of the load currents of the motor 8 at a higher accuracy with a simple structure.
