The invention relates to a process of oil coke calcination meant to enhance quality and to obtain an optimal thermal and material efficiency, for use in making graphite electrodes and other carbon products, this process being an improvement of the invention RO 111282 . According to the invention, the process consists in separating the fraction that comprises fine particles with the diameter less than 5 mm into two grading fractions and in compacting, by pelleting or briquetting with a binder, followed by feeding both fractions to a rotary oven, in admixture or separately, the heating being carried out using the smoke gases that circulate in counterstream and taking place with a higher thermal efficiency due to the mixing intensification and resting period prolongation, by providing some stopping plates across the oven length.
