PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reproduction method for reproducing, in black- and-white, a manuscript written only by characters including color characters when switching between the black-and-white reproduction and color reproduction of images. SOLUTION: When judging whether color reproduction is to be made or not, color reproduction is made when there are a pattern region and a color manuscript. Otherwise, black-and-white reproduction is made. An image- processing section 2 has a color image-processing function and a black-and-white image-processing function, and switches between image processing/output for color and image processing/output for black-and-white according to the output result of a color/black-and-white output judgment section 6. The color/black-and- white output judgment section 6 uses the output signals of a chromatic/ monochromatic judgment section 4 and an intermediate half tone judgment section 5, and judges color output when there are at least a specific number of chromatic judgment pixels and half tone judgment pixels. Otherwise, the judgment section 6 judges it for black-and-white output. |
