摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the optical amplification device of simple constitution, which can obtain a gain deviation when input optical power and a temperature change without using expensive parts, and to provide an optical amplification method and to make the gain deviation in a desired state based on the obtained gain deviation. SOLUTION: The optical amplification device is provided with an optical amplification medium where signal light and excited light, which are wavelength-multiplexed, are simultaneously made incident and signal light is amplified, a light source generating excited light and an amplification characteristic monitoring part obtaining the gain deviation after the amplification of respective signals different in wavelengths constituting signal light. The amplification characteristic monitoring part previously records a plurality of characteristic curves obtained by plotting a relation between the output light power of the optical amplification medium and exited light power corresponding to output optical power at every prescribed gain deviation. The characteristic curve nearest to a relation during an operation by the power of excited light which is made incident on the optical amplification medium during the operation and the power of output light after amplification by said power is selected from a plurality of characteristic curves. The gain deviation of the optical amplification medium is decided based on the selected characteristic curve.
