PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording device which can reproduce an image signal relatively easily when link information is destroyed while conforming with a system with high versatility. SOLUTION: The image signal captured by a CCD photodetecting element 14 is temporarily recorded in an image memory 22 through a signal processing circuit 16 and compressed by an image compressing and expanding circuit 24. The compressed image file is recorded on a hard disk 28a in a hard disk drive 28 through a temporary storage memory 26. The data area on the hard disk 28a is divided into clusters and image files are recorded in the respective clusters. Then link information showing how the clusters are linked is recorded in the management area on the hard disk 28a. Here, the size of the compressed image file is <=1/N time as large as that of the clusters. Consequently, one compressed image file can be stored in one cluster. In one cluster, the continuity of signals is guaranteed, so even if the link information in the management area is destroyed, the compressed image file can be reproduced relatively easily.
